Ik had niet echt behoefte om foto's te maken de laatste tijd, dus hier een paar uit mijn arcIhief. Foto's van dat wat me het meeste bezighoudt: mijn werk. Lunch op kantoor - k eet een boterham met de locatiemanagers en mijn assistente. Zij gaat weg per 1 januari en een van de managers ook, dus ik ben hard op zoek naar nieuwe mensen. Wat nogal moeilijk gaat worden, want beiden zijn erg goed en dus moeilijk vervangbaar.
Didn't have the urge to make pictures for some time, so here are some from my archives. Pictures from the thing that keeps me busy most: work. Lunchtime at the office - I have a sandwich together with the location managers and my assistant. She's leaving January 1st and so is one of the managers, so I'm trying to find to new people. Which is going to be hard, because they're both good and hard to replace.
Dit is een van onze locaties. Op een normale weekdag geven we hier begeleiding aan zo'n 140 kinderen in de leeftijd van 13 tot 18. We hebben in totaal zes locaties (drie van onszelf en drie scholen). Elke locatie heeft een locatiemanager die er voor zorgt dat er elke dag begeleiders zijn om de kinderen te helpen met hun huiswerk. De begeleiders zijn studenten van de universiteit die speciaal getraind worden voor de begeleiding. This is one our own locations. On a normal weekday, we teach about 140 kids in the ages from 13 to 18. We have a total of six locations (three of our own, three schools). Each location has its own location manager, who makes sure there are tutors each day to help the kids with their homework. The tutors are university students who get a special training in how to teach the children.
Elk kind heeft zijn/haar eigen werkruimte waar ze studeren alvorens overhoord te worden door een begeleider. Ze zijn aanwezig tussen 2 uur en half zeven. Vroeger gaf ik de begeleiding zelf, maar tegenwoordig doe ik dat nog maar een keer per week en ben ik verder op kantoor aan het werk. Ik vind het leuk om uit mijn kantoor te ontsnappen en naar een locatie te gaan om te kijken naar de kids terwijl ze studeren. Soms praat ik met ze of help ik de begeleiders met overhoren. De kinderen zijn geweldig. Ze zijn slim en grappig en vol met energie.
Each child has his/her own workspace where they prepare before being quizzed by one of the tutors. They are there from 2pm till 6.30 pm. I used to teach them myself, but nowadays I only get to be a tutor once a week; I'm at the office for the most part. I like to sneak out of my office and go to one of the locations to watch the children as they study. Sometimes I talk to them or help the tutors quiz them. The kids are great. They're funny and smart and energetic.
Op dit moment werken er zestig mensen in mijn bedrijf. 60 ja. Dat is inderdaad heel veel. Toen deze foto gemaakt werd (juli 2005) waren dat er nog 40. Het is een jonge groep enthousiaste en flexible mensen en ik ben vaak erg trots op ze.
At the moment sixty people work for my company. Yes, 60. That's a lot. When this picture was taken (July 2005) we only had 40. It's a young group of enthusiastic and flexible people. I'm proud of this group a lot.
So this is work. I created it myself. It's the place I wanted to be most for a good four years. It's the best thing I ever accomplished. It's what kept me up at night. It's where I met beautiful people. It's what I dreamt of, lived for, cried about, fought for, stuck with and clung to. It's what ties me down now. And what I can't let go. It's my beautiful monster.
