Phnom Penh

So here's what I miss from home when I miss it:
- talking to my friends on the phone
- sitting in my office with a cup of coffee and Tim&Janine (sorry...)
- lying in my bed
- holding Noah
- making my sister laugh
- hugging my mom
- not being a tourist
- listening to music in the car

Here's what I don't miss:
- The weather
- Being in a hurry
- All the bullshit
- Hearing Dutch
- Irritated drivers
- It getting dark early
- Having to cook
- Being responsible

These are the things that make me smile here:
- Fruit shakes
- Having conversations with people I don't know
- Wearing flip flops
- Sushi, lemongrass, sticky rice
- Seeing people smile
- Writing a story
- Sunlight
- Drinking time like water
- Making a good picture
- Listening to music in the car

And the things I could do without:
- Backpackers walking around like they're experienced travellers or - even worse - becoming indigenous people themselves
- Continental breakfast buffets
- Customs officers
- Traffic jams
- Smog
- Thai people telling me it's Buddha day
- The premise that to travel means to experience unique events that can be checked off a list.
