When I had spent two days exploring Chiang Mai, I got sick. I don't know what caused it; it might have been all kinds of things. I just felt really really sick. After one day, it slowly went away, so I was ready to fly to the islands. Chiang Mai is a very nice city and its surroundings are also very beautiful (thought I didn't get to see much of it, due to both my sickness and my reluctance to join 1000s of other backpackers in the long line of buses bringing them to these places that seem to be designed for just that: showing westerners how enormously authentic northern Thailand is).
At one point the tables got turned and four Thai teenagers asked to be in a picture with me. So I had my picture taken four times holding up a V-sign and being their European friend. And I didn't even get paid for it!!!
Thai way of a Coca Cola (light) break!
